Finding Forrester x The Catcher in the Rye

In the movie Finding Forrester, there was an unnecessary scene in the movie also in the book, Catcher in the Rye. The scene in the movie is when Jamal is just working on his 5000 words why he shouldn’t knock on the door and their is a couple banging on the room above his. In the book, Holden orders a hooker that comes in his room and he doesn’t do anything with her. Both of these scenes were unnecessary for the book and the movie. Holden and Jamal are both opposite people in their story. Jamal is a teenager who is very intelligent and knows how to write, while Holden, who is also a teenager, just wants to get his life away from school and he isn’t as intelligent as Jamal because he fails mostly all of his classes. The similarity Jamal and Holden have is they’re a huge part to their family. Holden doesn’t want to shame his family because he got kicked out of school while Jamal is already connected with his family and they are happy that his test scores are high. The scenery of the movie and the book are similar because they’re in school and New york.

The Catcher in the Rye

The Catcher in the Rye

While I was reading,”The Catcher in the Rye,” by J.D. Salinger, a scene of the  book stood out of the others I read so far. This scene was when the teen (who is a teenager boy that is 17) went to his english teacher’s house and talked a long time about the boy. The boy was flunking his classes and didn’t give two poops about school. During their talk, the boy was thinking about how he was wasting his time visiting him. This reminded me about the talks I would get from my family member about my future, relationships, and school. For instance, my uncle was talking to me about my future and how he wants me to do this or do that. I just wanted to do what I wanted, but he was just stressing me out. I was just saying “okay, okay.” I wanted to leave the house and run away from my uncle, but I was just one of those kids that just listen and ignore what they’re saying after awhile. Another time was when my family was in the car and asked me what my major was going to be. I didn’t have an answer and I told them,” I didn’t know.” They kept going on and on about how I shouldn’t be like them and how they just got lucky on their business. My uncle didn’t go to college or anything. He just started from a little nail shop to a big and luxurious nail shop. Another  Part of scenes that reminded him of myself is when the kid in the story was flunking and it reminded me about myself in my freshmen year. I wasn’t really flunking, but I shouldn’t have slacked off and play video games all day. I feel sorry for the kid. He’s my age, but he was sent off to a school and he doesn’t see his parents or family till breaks.
